Piro History

The Pemba Island Relief Organization was registered in 1997 (Zanzibar Societies Act #6, 1995) with the intention of improving the lives and welfare of the people of Zanzibar by joining with and supplementing government efforts towards development. Our expertise and commitment is focused on supporting communities to be able to develop, plan, implement and manage projects that will lead to educated, healthy, well-informed, self-sufficient and responsible citizens. To date, our projects are in all four districts of Pemba and are serving many communities. PIRO has experience on child protection issues and have received technical and financial supports from ILO/IPEC, US based Firelight Foundation, UNICEF, Zanzibar Aids Commission, EU/Save the Children, Foundation for Civil Society, UN World Food Program, RFE/BOCAR , Ministries of Health, Education, Women, Children and Youth Development and  District Councils.
